Bluemner, who originally trained and worked as an architect,
dedicated himself to painting in 1910 after meeting the prominent
artist and publisher Alfred Stieglitz. Influenced successively
by such modernist movements as Impressionism, Neo-Impressionism,
Cubism, and Orphism, he gradually developed an individualized
approach to landscape painting based primarily on the psychological
impact of color.
