| A paper conservator trained in the “Wellesley
Method,” Martina Yamin has been steadily collecting
contemporary drawings for some time. Her New York townhouse
is filled top to bottom with drawings by established and
emerging artists, including Marlene Dumas, Willie Cole, R.
Crumb, Barry McGee, Chun Seong, Danica Phelps, Roxy Paine,
Kara Walker, Tony Oursler, Alison Strafella, Ernesto Neto
and Kiki Smith. In recent decades, the practice of drawing
has increasingly come to play a major role in the work of
contemporary artists, who have shifted the terrain of drawing
and redefined its parameters. The exhibition will explore
the revitalized state of drawing from multiple angles, looking
at subject matter, conceptual frameworks, materials and formats,
as well as the sensibility of the collector and the force
of the marketplace.
